Correction
Following the incorrect comments made by Mr. Frederik Karel-Canoy regarding
damages paid to Vivendi shareholders, the company would like to set the record
straight, as follows:
In the context of a settlement with the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) dated December 23, 2003, Vivendi Universal paid a
civil penalty in the amount of $50 million. At the SEC’s request, this sum was
invested in a fund in the United States under the supervision of a court.
On June 7, 2005, the District Court of the Southern District of New York
appointed an officer, Mr. Jeffrey Sklaroff, to distribute this sum among
Vivendi’s shareholders.
Contrary to the allegations made by Mr.
Karel-Canoy, the practicalities of distribution have not yet been decided upon.
The court officer has confirmed that this is not likely to take place before
2007 at the earliest.
The statements made by Mr. Karel-Canoy are
therefore false. Vivendi reserves its rights as to any action it may take in
this matter whether in the courts or before professional bodies.
