340,000 full track music
downloads in the month of December
Nearly 2 million video calls made to the end of
2005
At the beginning of January SFR passed the symbolic threshold of one million 3G customers, with a total of
precisely 1,060,000 3G customers as of January 9. These are customers with access to the new 3G network, the only
network to offer additional voice capacity, allow video calls and give very rapid access to new multimedia services such
as music or video downloading.
SFR was the first operator to launch 3G in France in November 2004. Since then it has made 3G its priority, and by the
end of October 2005 had already gained 500,000 3G customers, two months ahead of its initial sales target for the end
of 2005.
SFR now expects to have a total of 2.5 million 3G customers by the end of 2006.
This success reflects SFR's strategy of making the French 3G market more dynamic by introducing a wide range of
initiatives:
access to 3G regardless of the customer’s tariff plan (post-paid subscriber, prepaid client, blocked account), from
22 euros per month for the lowest post-paid tariff plan and from 10 euros for the smallest prepaid top-up.
the widest range of 3G mobiles: 14 handsets including the Sharp V903SH, the first mobile equipped with a
digital camera with a resolution of 3 megapixels,
a significant reduction in the price of 3G mobiles, from as low as 9 euros,
the deployment of the widest 3G network in France covering 60% of the population at the end of 2005,
access to the 3G network in more than 25 countries abroad (through Vodafone),
the most extensive music download catalogue on the market, with 500,000 songs available from major
music companies
a strong commercial presence throughout France (with 5,000 retail outlets).
Strong growth in the use of 3G
The growth in the use of 3G services continues:
340,000 music tracks were downloaded in December 2005, namely more than 11,000 tracks per day, bringing
the cumulative number of downloads in 2005 to 830,000 . SFR has become one of the very top music portals in France.
1.2 million TV-Video sessions in December (including 40,000 for the “24 Conspiracy” series and 50,000 for the
extracts from the Jean-Marie Bigard show), and a total of 4.3 million TV-Video sessions in 2005,
more than 20,000 customers were subscribed to the package of the 26 CANALSAT channels at the end of
December, out of a total of 51 TV channels available to SFR’s 3G customers, one in three 3G customers regularly makes video calls. In total, nearly 2 million video communications have been
made using the SFR network since its launch in November 2004,
three out of four 3G customers use the Vodafone live! portal services,
the number of Vodafone live! portal sessions by 3G customers is 3 times as high as the number by 2G customers.
These results show the level of consumer interest in innovative mobile products, and lend support to SFR’s strategy of
making 3G one of its major priorities.
