Vivendi Games Acquires Award-Winning Mobile Publisher Centerscore
Vivendi Games Mobile Division Adds Hit Titles and Accomplished Internal
Development Team to its North American Operations
LOS ANGELES – Sept.
12, 2006 – Vivendi Games today announced that it has acquired Centerscore, a
prominent developer of award-winning mobile games. The acquisition accelerates
Vivendi Games’ entry into the mobile games and entertainment space. Financial
terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“The Vivendi Games Mobile
division is gaining good traction in the worldwide mobile marketplace,” said
Cindy Cook, chief strategy and marketing officer for Vivendi Games. “The
addition of the Centerscore team is another step in our plan to be among the top
mobile publishers in the industry.”
“Centerscore’s imaginative games have
consistently been top sellers; and the diverse lineup of titles, particularly
their excellent range of casual games, is a welcome addition to our existing
portfolio,” said Paul Maglione, president, Vivendi Games Mobile. “What we found
most exceptional about Centerscore is the Company’s ability to successfully
build a team of designers, artists, developers and testers from the ground up,
and to execute the creation and distribution of great games from under one
roof.”
Vivendi Games Mobile will obtain the rights to Centerscore’s
portfolio of popular titles as well as games currently in development.
Centerscore has launched a variety of innovative casual games that have amassed
accolades from critics throughout the industry, including Amy’s Jigsaw
Scrapbook, Amy’s Hangman and Alone: The Horror Begins. Oliver Miao, CEO of
Centerscore, will continue in his current role leading the studio and will
report to Maglione. The studio will continue to be based out of San Mateo,
Calif.
“As a young, creative team built around developing original
games, Centerscore was hesitant to join a large company. However, Vivendi Games
Mobile has the vision, the strength and the people with heart to make them an
oustanding market leader,” said Miao. “We are truly thrilled to join the Vivendi
Games Mobile team in delivering exciting, new games to everyday
people.” Founded in 2000 by Miao and three of his friends from Stanford
University, Centerscore is one of the most experienced and established mobile
game developers in the U.S. Other popular games currently on sale with wireless
carriers include Surviving High School, Spin Blocks 360, Aquarium Pets and a
range of Garfield-branded titles.
