3rd October 2006
SFR buys out the fixed telephony and broadband
activities of Télé 2 France
SFR has signed an agreement with the Télé2 AB
Group to acquire the fixed telephony and broadband activities of Télé2 France
for a corporate value of around €350 million; the mobile phone activity (MVNO)
is maintained and directly taken over by the Télé 2 AB Group.
This
operation will be submitted for approval by the French anti-trust
authorities.
As part of this operation, SFR acquires almost 300,000
broadband customers and 3 million fixed voice customers that could potentially
move towards broadband deals. Sales for these activities reached €260 million in
the first half of 2006.
While maintaining mobility as its core business,
this takeover falls in line with SFR’s “mobile centric” strategy which consists
in offering each individual greater continuity and customisation in
telecommunications services. This is in a context where mobility and the
Internet will remain the driving forces behind growth in the sector over the
next few years and where constantly growing mobile usages will be naturally
extended to the Internet. The acquisition of Télé 2 France will allow SFR to
develop in this area.
