Acquisition of 51% of Onatel

Upon an international call for tender, Maroc Telecom was declared the
successful tender for the acquisition of 51% of Onatel share capital, the
historical telecommunications operator of Burkina Faso, for an amount of 220
Euro million.
Mr. Abdeslam Ahizoune, Chairman of Maroc Telecom
Supervisory Board, as well as Mr Benoit Ouattara, Minister of trade, Craft
industry and Company Promotion, in charge of the privatization process, and Mr
Seydou Bouda representing the Minister of Finance and Budget, have today proceed
to signature of the signature oftransaction in the attendance of Mr. Paramanga
Ernest Yonli, Prime Minister of Burkina Faso.
The Chairman of Maroc
Telecom Supervisory Board gave to the Minister for Finance a cheque of an amount
of 220 Euro million in consideration of the takeover of ONATEL capital by Maroc
Telecom.
For this occasion, Mr. Ahizoune declared: "We are proud that
Maroc Telecom has appointed as the strategic partner of Onatel which is a solid
company that has an important growth potential. Maroc Telecom will all implement
to make of it an operator of reference at a regional level.
Onatel
realized with its subsidiary, Telmob, a revenues of 103 Euro million in 2005.
Confronted with the competition of two other operators on the Mobile market,
Onatel has, at the end of December 2006, more than 400,000 Mobiles customers and
more than 100,000 Fixed-line customers according to ONATEL.
Let us
recall that Maroc Telecom is also the majority shareholder of Mauritel, the
historical operator of Mauritanian telecommunications, since April 2001.
