Approach and Performance
Canal Overseas Africa, a subsidiary of the Canal+ Group, contributes to promoting pluralism and quality of content. In 2009, its offering of African channels was broadened to include 14 channels accessible to customers of CanalSat Horizons in more than 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Also available in France, this bundle links Africans and those interested in Africa residing in France to local news and audiovisual works.
In February 2009, CanalSat Horizons launched two new channels in its bundle:
- AFRICA 24, the first world news channel in Africa, with the goal of presenting the real, dynamic, evolving face of the African continent, and
- AFRICABLE, the generalist channel for the African continent. By summer, three Cameroonian channels had joined the CanalSat Horizons bundle:
- CANAL2 INTERNATIONAL, Cameroon’s oldest private television channel, with strong viewership,
- STV2, a generalist channel carrying a variety of programs aimed at the entire family, and
- Equinoxe TV, a generalist channel offering varied programs with entertainment, sports, political, and health programming, and also news, with many daily programs in French, English, and also pidgin English, a very popular language in Cameroon.
Finally, in October RTG1, a benchmark generalist channel on Gabon’s audiovisual scene, joined the bundle of African channels offered by CanalSat Horizons.
