Approach and Performance
Dorota Zawadzka, Director of Communications, Canal+ Poland
(ASDR 2009)
Canal+ in Poland has produced 120 feature films and 30 documentaries
« In Poland, Canal+ not only presents fi lm to its subscribers – broadcasting 400 films a year, including some of the best work from Poland and around the world –, but also contributes to Polish cinema with financial support for some of the most interesting projects developed in the past 15 years.
More than 120 feature fi lms and 30 documentaries have been made thanks to the channel’s support. Many of them have entered the annals of Polish, European and even world cinema. Examples are Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, which won awards at the Oscars and the Cannes Festival, or Jacek Borcuch’s Wszystko, co kocham (All That I Love), which won awards at the 2009 Polish Film Festival and was selected for the main competition of the Sundance independent fi lm festival in 2010.
Canal+ co-produced the next film by Jerzy Skolimowski, The Essence of Killing, and the international production The Flying Machine on the occasion of the bicentennial of the birth of Frédéric Chopin. This project perfectly symbolizes the channel’s attachment to Polish and European tradition and its commitment to promoting Polish culture throughout the world. »
