Approach and Performance
SFR has set up a new program for recycling used cell phones that provides incentives by rewarding the individual user and supports non-profit associations as well.
Since March 16, 2010, SFR gives any individual, whether or not they are SFR customers, a purchase voucher when they bring an old cell phone or other mobile device to an Espace SFR sales outlet for collection. Users can find out the value of their old phones in an Espace SFR or on the SFR website, where a ‘blue book’ for mobiles is made available and updated monthly. Valuation of the device depends on the model, its condition and its age, and can be as high as 200€. Users get a purchase voucher equivalent to the book value of the phone they bring in, valid on the same day in the same Espace SFR for the purchase of all products and accessories.
In addition, for each mobile device recycled, SFR pays 4€ to partner associations such as La Voix de l’Enfant (a federation of associations working against child abuse) and Fondaterra (a foundation working in favor of the environment and sustainable territorial development).
When they are re-usable, the devices collected are reconditioned in France by Anovo (Europe’s leader in servicing digital terminals) for resale in countries where mobile telephony can be a force for development; or by Les Ateliers du Bocage to re-enter the Emmaüs France solidarity network. If not re-usable, the devices (with batteries and accessories) are recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
With this new program of recuperating used cell phones which provides incentives for individuals, SFR has given a new boost to the recycling of used cellular telephones.
