About

The second-largest telecommunications operator in France

SFR is a 56% subsidiary of Vivendi. In 2008, SFR finalized its merger with Neuf Cegetel, thus creating the second-ranking global operator in France. With 19.7 million mobile customers and 3.9 million high-speed Internet customers, the new SFR – created from the merger between SFR and Neuf Cegetel* – is the leading alternative mobile and fixed-line operator in Europe, offering solutions tailored to the needs of individuals, companies and operators. This new arrangement will be a driving force in terms of innovation, development of new services, convergent solutions and deployment of very-high-speed fixed-line (fibre-optic) and mobile (3G+) networks to better serve consumers. As the owner of its network infrastructure and with the benefit of expertise in the Internet, it has all the necessary resources to develop its leadership in terms of innovation and quality of service.

Mass-Market innovation and simplicity

Mass-Market innovation and simplicity
SFR has launched innovative mobile Internet packages that have enjoyed great success: the “3G+ Internet Key” enables the Internet to be surfed from anywhere using a laptop (190,000 Keys were sold by late 2008). “Illimythics” was the first unlimited mobile Internet package (with 1.4 million customers by the end of 2008) and the Eee PC is an ultra compact and light laptop combined with a 3G+ Internet Key (34,000 Eee PCs were sold with subscriptions in 2008). In October 2008, SFR has launched “the neufbox of SFR”, combining broadband Internet, TV, fixed telephony and customer service.

Music partner
SFR is the leading mobile music download platform in France with a musical catalogue of over a million tracks. With over 10 million songs downloaded (up 60% over 2007), SFR’s market share of mobile music sales rose to 61% and 14% for the mobile and Internet markets combined. SFR launched its www.attentionmusiquefraiche.fr site, enabling people to discover new talent and follow concerts live.

TV/video
SFR’s 2.1 million mobile TV/video subscribers have access to 81 high-definition television channels and content adapted for mobile viewing.

Traditional uses
At the same time, traditional uses for mobile phones continue to develop: SFR customers sent a record-setting 14.6 billion SMS text messages in 2008.

Business services

A global approach for business

2008 marked the creation of the “SFR Business Team,” the leading alternative fixed and mobile operator on the business market, embodying convergence and new uses for this type of customer. “SFR Business Team” launched its first convergence packages, including 9office SFR, the telephony solution offering highly attractive pricing for all internal fixed and mobile calls. SFR Business Team also launched 9IpnetToIP, a package of convergent services using an all-IP private network, offering businesses a seamless environment and reduced costs.

Network development

SFR is boosting its investment capacity in order to continue to extend its very-high-speed mobile network across its entire territory – SFR’s 3G+ coverage has already reached 72% of the population – and to fine-tune innovative services and make them accessible to as many people as possible. SFR is now accelerating its deployment of fibre optics closer to users to prepare for the very-high-speed fixed-line networks of tomorrow. With the right operational and regulatory conditions, in five to eight years SFR should be able to offer very-high-speed Internet via fibre optics to 40% of the French population.

The number one mobile network

SFR is the Number One mobile network according to an Arcep ( Electronic Communications and Mail Regulation Authority) Survey on mobile network quality in 2008.

The leading alternative fixed network in France
At the end of 2008, SFR had the largest alternative fixed network in France with almost 50,000 km of high-speed fiber-optic cables. As the leading European unbundler, SFR had 2,300 SCUs (Subscriber Connection Units) on its network at the end of 2008, with over 19.5 million unbundlable lines.
