Vivendi: press release

Vivendi notes with satisfaction that in a decision issued today by the Paris Court of Appeal in the proceedings relating to certain former Vivendi officers, the Court upheld the validity of Vivendi’s status as a civil party to the proceedings, has exonerated it from any responsibility and has voided the demand for damages brought against it by certain shareholders or former shareholders.

The Court of Appeal rendered its decision in the appeal against the January 21, 2011 judgment rendered by the lower criminal court which convicted Mr. Jean-Marie Messier and other individuals of disseminating false or misleading information to the market, the abuse of corporate assets, stock price manipulation and insider trading during the period 2000-2002.

The Court overturned the lower court’s decision which found Mr. Messier and Mr. Guillaume Hannezo guilty of disseminating false or misleading information to the market and which ordered them to pay damages to certain shareholders and former shareholders.
