The initiative  from Canal+ Afrique and Canal France International (CFI),  “Africa by women” (“L’Afrique au feminin”) is a contest of short documentaries dedicated to women African filmmakers based on the theme “Succeeding today in Africa” launched in 2013. The collection of best documentaries has been aired by Canal+ in Africa in September 2014.

Out of hundreds of applications fifteen women filmmakers coming from thirteen countries of francophone Sub-Saharan Africa have been selected to participate in the project.  The nominees had the opportunity to be trained to writing and video editing.  Finally eleven movies have been selected to be aired by Canal+ Africa. 

This great initiative of promoting new women talents in the African audiovisual industry is perfectly in line with Vivendi’s societal responsibility policy  and meets Canal+ Africa commitments’ to support women and training in the African movie industry.  “Africa by women” (“L’Afrique au feminin”) is  to support women working in the audiovisual industry while contributing to its professionalization locally. As an example, Alexandra Amon is an Ivorian producer and director revealed by the programme and she will be back on Canal+ Africa soon.
