CanalPlay, France’s leading subscription-based VoD provider, has launched a new version of its mobile app for iOS and Android. It is more intuitive and user-friendly, and allows faster access to content. It also includes a recommendation system and, in the next few weeks, it will offer a special secure area for children. This new app is one of the first in France to include Google’s Chromecast key. With this function, subscribers can start a program on their smartphone or tablet before launching it on their TV screen. Once the program is playing on the television set, the tablet or smartphone becomes available for other uses. The free-of-charge CanalPlay app is available from Google Play and the App Store. Universal Music Group acquires Eagle Rock

Universal Music Group (UMG) has acquired UK-based Eagle Rock Entertainment, the largest producer and distributor of music programming for DVD, Blu-Ray, TV and Digital Media in the world. Eagle Rock works directly alongside talent to produce top quality, High Definition and 3D programmes, both concerts and documentaries, including The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Queen, The Doors, Jeff Beck, U2, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney and Ozzy Osbourne. The acquisition enhances UMG’s presence in one of the most dynamic and growing segments of music today: top-quality, original audio-visual content, such as live concert footage, documentaries and films.
