The gifted Franco-Lebanese trumpeter, who has distinguished himself again on the stage of the closing ceremony of Cannes Film Festival 2016, works in favour of dialogue between cultures through his music, a crossroads of jazz and oriental music. In this interview, Ibrahim Maalouf talks about his last album Kalthoum  – a tribute to the Egyptian diva Oum Kathloum – and the story of the trumpet in quarter tone. This instrument invented by his father is really unique and has a symbolic value: the fourth piston added allows to play the Arabic modes of music bridging East and West.

In naming him “Young artist contributing to intercultural dialogue” in 2011, UNESCO made no mistake.
