Groupe Canal+
Canal+ to launch major African channel A+

This October, Canal+ will be launching a new, 100% African channel to expand its Canalsat lineup in Africa. A+ aims to become French-speaking Africa’s standard-setting channel, seeking to reflect the continent’s various identities and defining features, and to be resolutely oriented toward Africa’s future. Two-thirds of the programming will be dedicated to African or African-American series, films and TV movies. A+ will also broadcast special reports, reality TV shows and game shows. Popular and modern, A+ will attract a very wide audience, and its programming grid will also have a lot to offer women and young people aged 15 to 25. As Canal+ Overseas Chairman Jacques du Puy put it, “A+ will be made by Africans, for Africans, and illustrates Canal+ Africa’s commitment to supporting the development of Africa’s cultural industry and to help ensure that it is dynamic, is talent-rich and helps create jobs. A+ will thus feature local productions, which Canal+ plans to promote and help to develop.”  With 1.1 million subscribers, Canal+ Africa is the leading satellite pay-television operator in French-speaking Africa. A subsidiary of Canal+ Overseas, which handles Canal+ activities outside of France and in the French overseas territories, Canal+ Africa has been expanding its presence on the African continent for over 20 years and now has eight subsidiaries. Canal+ Africa is in charge of releasing and marketing the “Les Chaînes Canal+” offering, which comprises seven premium channels.
