Classical Beatles

This year, which marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first single, “Love Me Do,” in 1962 and Paul McCartney’s 70th birthday, Decca is paying a tremendous tribute with the release of a double album featuring 45 classical arrangements of the Beatles’ music. The album opens with classical guitar arrangements of certain Beatles hits, including Cuban composer Leo Brouwer’s suite for guitars and strings, “From Yesterday to Penny Lane.” The second CD is dedicated to orchestral arrangements, including several by conductor Frank Chacksfield, culminating with an exalted “Let It Be” by Arthur Fiedler and The Boston Pops.
