With its spectacular special effects, script, performance and action scenes, the epic blockbuster has not aged at all. As part of Studiocanal’s policy to leverage its impressive catalog, the newly released 3D version, hits the box office.

In 2016, 25 years after the theatrical release of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, Studiocanal, alongside Lightstorm, James Cameron’s production company, and DMG Entertainment, initiated the restoration of the epic action/sci-fi masterpiece in order to re-release the film in a 3D version.

The original 35mm negative was scanned, restored in 4k, and then converted into 3D. This work, which took almost a year and was overseen by James Cameron’s team from start to finish, produced a high-end 3D version on par with the latest 3D releases from US studios.

“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is just one of the gems in Studiocanal’s extensive catalog of over 6,000 motion pictures. Studiocanal’s strong willingness to promote its masterpieces is illustrated by the fact that each year it restores, exposes and re-releases classic films, such as Luis Buñuel’s “Belle de Jour” and Mike Nichols’ “The Graduate” in 2017, and, previously, the French films “La Grande Vadrouille”, “Plein Soleil” and “Le Jour Se Lève”.

Studiocanal has been distributing “Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” in Australia and New Zealand since August 24, and in the UK and Germany since August 29. It will hit screens in France on September 14.

Early Terminator fans as well the younger generation are equally enthusiastic about the new version: on its opening day, the movie was no.1 at the UK box office.
