Our Vision of CSR in the Media Sector
As a key player in the media sector, Vivendi differentiates itself through its approach and contribution to sustainable development, aimed at: meeting the needs of present and future generations to communicate; fostering the development of their talent; nurturing their curiosity; and encouraging intercultural dialogue and learning to live together.
Being aware of the human and cultural influence exerted by the group over millions of customers and citizens, Vivendi has defined four CSR strategic “core” issues relating to human rights:
- promoting cultural diversity in the production and distribution of content while fostering the artistic creative process;
- empowering and protecting young people in their use of digital media;
- fostering knowledge sharing which includes pluralism of content, access to media and awareness raising of sustainable development issues;
- reconciling the valuation and protection of personal data to take advantage of the great potential of digital technology, while respecting the privacy of the group’s customers.
These four strategic “core” issues are part of Vivendi’s eight CSR priority issues.
OUR INTEGRATED REPORTING PROCESS PROMOTING VALUE CREATION
Driven by the determination to combine corporate social responsibility (CSR) and value creation through the choice of its strategic issues and its positioning, Vivendi has pursued an integrated reporting process by involving the different functional divisions of its corporate headquarters and its subsidiaries in this process over the years. Integrated reporting allows the group’s stakeholders to have a grid that provides an overview of its missions, its performance, its growth drivers, its CSR commitments, its strategy, its risks and its opportunities.

CSR INTEGRATED INTO GOVERNANCE AND STRATEGY
CSR is fully integrated in Vivendi strategy and governance, as illustrated by the integration of specific criteria into variable remuneration of senior executives, linked to the “core” CSR issues. The Supervisory Board regularly examines the group’s corporate social responsibility policy. The CSR department reports to the Chief Operating Officer, who is a member of Vivendi’s Management Board. The CSR department defines the strategic guidelines and carries out cross-departmental functions, cooperating with the different functional entities of the group.
Furthermore, in the media and cultural industries sector, Vivendi has been at the forefront of reporting and assessment of societal indicators directly related to its activities.
A DIALOGUE WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS
As part of its corporate social responsibility policy, Vivendi maintains regular and constructive dialogue with all its partners: investors and analysts, representatives of national, European and international institutions, professional organizations, the academic world and NGOs. Because discussions with stakeholders bring new ideas and suggestions to any group that keeps abreast of its partners’ concerns, the CSR department has created two innovative digital tools: the website Culture(s) with Vivendi and the CSR web radio Vivoice.
