Vivendi sponsors the “Future of Culture, Future of Europe” Forum being held at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris on 4-5 April.

This forum brings together artists, intellectuals, economists, academics and business leaders from a wide range of backgrounds. On the eve of the renewal of European mandates (Parliamentary elections and appointment a new Commission), it also offers an opportunity to assemble several European Culture Ministers and reflect on the Union’s future policies.

The significant role of culture in the French and European economies and the preponderant role played by cultural diversity in social cohesion are no longer subject to debate. Vivendi has likewise made cultural diversity one of the pillars of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy.

The digital age is giving rise to profound transformations in cultural practices. With the increasing numbers of distribution platforms and users calling for more content and access facilities, the value chain is undergoing major changes. In this new equation, copyright issues continue to play a pivotal role. Confronted with these new challenges, how do private actors and governments perceive these transformations and how are they responding in the context of public cuts and budget crisis?

More generally, what strategy should Europe adopt to ensure that the vitality of its cultural industry remains an asset in a globalised world?

Individual presentations and panel discussions will span wide-ranging points of view on these critical issues for European culture (“A Europe for creators: what do artists and thinkers expect from Europe”; “Culture, an economic and social asset for Europe”; “Copyright’s role in funding creation in the digital age”;“Circulation, exchange and cooperation: Europe as a centre of creation”; “Europe, the new frontier of cultural democracy”; “Culture in the digital age: the new challenges posed by regulation”).

Vivendi’s websites, www.cultureswithvivendi.com and www.themediashaker.com, will cover the event.
