Acclaimed by critics and subscribers alike, the Création Originale original series are particularly emblematic of the quality of CANAL+ programs, and their singular style contributes to the renewal of this genre. The most successful series include: BARON NOIR with Kad Merad, LE BUREAU DES LÉGENDES, ENGRENAGES, VERSAILLES and THE YOUNG POPE by Paolo Sorrentino with Jude Law.
At the same time, the Group offers an array of the most popular and innovative foreign series, such as BILLIONS, GOMORRA, THIS IS US, WAYWARD PINES and TABOO. The Group has exclusive rights to series from the American channel Showtime (Dexter, Ray Donovan, The Affair, etc.)
With the setting-up of the label Création Documentaire two years ago, CANAL+ decided to broadcast, during prime time, exceptional documentary films that addresspowerful issues, always on a human scale. Some of the most recent successes include RELEVE, which was selected at Tribeca in New York, TEDDY RINER at the Cannes Film Festival and EXODE, which won best documentary at the International Emmy Awards.
The best of theme channels
In addition to premium channels, the Canal+ Group produces about twenty pay-TV theme channels covering the major TV segments: cinema with the Ciné+ channels, discovery with Planète+, sport with Infosport+ and kids’ programs with Piwi+ and Télétoon. In 2017, the CANAL+ Group launched POLAR+, a detective fiction channel with the best selection of classic and previously unreleased films and series from all around the world. In April 2018, the CANAL+ and Universal Music Groups launched DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON+, an innovative channel offering exclusive and specially-selected programs to showcase the prestigious catalog of the classical music label. Other plans for channels and services are underway, including CSTAR HIT France, a music channel dedicated to French pop music.
Under the brand CANAL, the Group provides a simple and attractive offering including the Canal+ channels and all the theme channels, with or without a minimum subscription period. Subscribers build their packages around the Canal+ channel, which becomes the point of entry to the whole CANAL range.
The CANAL+ Group distributes its range through specific subscriptions for satellite, ADSL, DTV, cable, fiber, smarphones and Internet.
These channels are sold directly by the Group (particularly over the Internet) and through a physical distribution network that includes almost 2,000 points of sale (large retail outlets, specialized stores and telecom operators’ stores). The range is also available on Internet service providers’ distribution platforms.
Moreover, following agreements with most Internet providers, CANAL channels are sold directly in the TV packages of Free, Orange and Bouygues.
Since 2018, the CANAL+ Group launched a new 8-tuner satellite/Internet decoder for ultra-fast browsing and unrivaled show quality with 4K-Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos sound. With its new sleek and intuitive interface, the new decoder enables CANAL to be received throughout the house, using a mini-decoder that connects automatically via WiFi.
